Monday, Feb. 03, 2003 - 10:57 p.m. I just received this letter from David, and it brings it all that much closer to home again. "Mon. 3 Feb 2003 21:54:16 Hello everyone. Since I have been out of pocket a lot lately and haven't been able to return many phone calls I thought I would write a very quick note instead. I have also lost my voice yesterday. There really isn't much that I can tell you that you probably don't already know, but I will try to fill in some details as best I can. First, it is extremely hard to put into words all the thoughts, emotions, and feelings that we're going through. This is very surreal, numbing, like it isn't really happening but you know that it is. The human side is of course especially difficult. The families left. We all talk about "the risk" and we accept "the risk" but I don't think anyone really appreciates what that means until something like this happens. We will get through this and we will be better.
As for myself, I need to go get some sleep. I am heading out to the debris field Tuesday and probably Wednesday to aid in the recovery. Wheels up at 0530. I'll let you know more when I know more. David" On a happier note, Steph is back in school after her bout with the flu. She worked till midnight Friday night, and got most of her homework caught up. Then Rick was here Saturday and worked on math with her for 2-3 hours. He eats it up. They were working on factors. She got it, but lost it on Sunday! Today, she came out to the car and beamed…I'm ecstatic! I got factoring! Nik tried to explain it and finally the teacher did. So she says she found out that she's a visual person…has to see it, I guess. Has started taking her multi vitamin as her white count was down pretty low, and she's anemic. Tim, the pharmacist, thought that the iron in it would be enough for her at her height and weight. So that's good, as iron has a very binding effect on people. Norm does have jury duty tomorrow, so he shined his shoes tonight. But I don't think he's going to make the cut as he heard it's a murder trial, and if so, the victim was married to Brenda's cousin. It happened quite awhile ago, and he didn't even know of the relationship, but still, they are picky. So he will miss his retirement dinner for his friend. I talked to Mike again today, and he had said before that the Hospice nurse is named SHEILA, and now says that the social worker is….BRENDA….be sure and tell her, he said. Just goes to show, I told him, that someone else is having a hand in this, too many coincidences, just letting him know that everything is working out according to plan. Getting pretty late again, darn it. Better hang it up and get to bed.
