Thursday March 6, 2003 - 11:30 p.m. I've had a very interesting day! Of course it snowed again last night, as it did the night before, but only slightly. Today Brenda and I took off for Paris again, and this time we made it...the roads were clear and it turned out to be a sunny day. While she was working away at her class, I scouted out the shops that I had been looking up, and found the quilt shop, very nice, and another little gift shop, but the book shop wasn't open. Alas, I looked down to see the 'low tire' light flash on. Buggers! It was the one that had been 'plugged' some time ago, and I knew I shouldn't trust it. Drove around until I found a real gas station with someone inside to help, sure enough found 'Ray's' and he came out and checked and aired it up for me. I can gas up now, but haven't tried air yet. Then off to Wally World where I picked up some more printer paper, and found some more firestarters for Norm, they're out of them here. After a quick lunch, I found the library, and armed with stacks of books on quilting, cross stitch and water color, I sat down at a table in a quiet room by a sunny window and read to my heart's content. One wonderful perk was the church right outside my window, that played lovely old hymns on the hour. Just as I was finished with my stack, Brenda called and she was ready to go, a lot sooner than we had expected. We stopped for a sandwich for Brenda and cappuccino for the trip home. When I got here and we had unpacked the car, Norm said that the library had called and I had had several books on hold and should they hold them any longer or send them back? He said that I was out of town and wouldn't be back until tomorrow???? So I went on over and told Carolyn that I hadn't gotten the first message! as I always go right over and pick them up. She said of course she knew that, and we laughed about my message 'receiver'. Janet said one of the others had asked, Who is that man who answers the phone at Sheila's house? While I was there I remembered that the book sale was going on today so made my way downstairs and spent some time there. I found Q is for Quarry by Sue Grafton, Woman Without a Past by Phyllis Whitney, I used to like hers, so just took it, The Songcatcher by Sharon McCrumb, Out of My Heart by Agnes Sligh Turnbull, and a Star Trek book for Rick, as he lost his whole collection. But the one that made me let out a yip was No Holly for Miss Quinn!!! I've been looking for that for so long, and there it was hiding way down on a bottom shelf. So, if I hadn't gone, I would have forgotten all about the sale today. So now I have more than enough books to keep me busy for awhile. Tonight Stars on Ice was on, so kept alternating between watching it in here and the front room, depending on whether Norm was up or not. I think I'll see if Mike is online and chat with him for just a bit, to see how his day has gone. And in the morning, I'm off to Mattoon to get at least two new tires for the front, and will transfer a present one to the puny back one.
