Sunday, Mar. 09, 2003 - 8:28 p.m. What a change in the temps. Yesterday it was so nice, in the 70's, like a promise of spring. By evening it had dropped down and we are back to winter. Friday Norm went along to get the tires because he wanted to check at Home Depot for things for the back bathroom. He is determined to replace the flooring, sub floor, etc. oh I do dread that, and we do need a new shower door, because this one keeps sagging, and has to be babied or bullied to close. Our Menard's has been in the making for so long, they tore down the big outlet mall for this, and I do miss some of the stores that were there, so I hope this is going to be worth it. Some say they like a Menard's better than the other mega hardware stores. They should be open within a couple of weeks, so that will be a lot handier to bring things home. Also checked on another section of picket fence for the front, I am determined to get that done this year. Norm thinks he will tear down the very old wire fence separating our back yard from a neighbor's. He thought it was hers, but she said no, and if he wanted to that was fine with her. So he will have to clear up his piles of junk, and the yard will have to stay neat! That will make it easier to mow behind the cottage/junkhouse as it's a bit close to the fence. Hmmm, I think I'll paint a window and shutters on that side, with a cat looking out. And it deserves a fresh coat of paint this year, along with the two porches, and the front fence and the backyard swing that I brought home from Dad's. It's a keeper as it came from Ste. Genevieve. And I intend to consolidate the flower gardens this year, there are just too many now for me to take care of. I got carried away last year, and I think I'll move quite a few things to the front so I can enjoy them from the porch. And that's another thing, I want to build up those borders by the fence and the porch, the soil is getting a bit ragged there, and I'm sure that will improve things. Yesterday was so sunny and nice, that after Brenda got off work at the Home, she and Steph went out to the park to play tennis. Much too strenuous for Brenda, but she was determined to get in some exercise, as per Dr. A. But they came in the door a bit later with Brenda dazed and Steph laughing up a storm. She had lobbed a ball over the net and it hit Brenda right in the head! Not that it was a funny thing, but Brenda always acts so funny, that you can't help but laugh. So we all got to giggling at her, in between being concerned. She took some pain pills and we had a cup of fancy coffee, but it was awhile before she felt a little better. Of course, no question of going out to the hospital! Not after her adventure with her feet there that she is still suffering from. This morning she said her headache was gone. I hope she doesn't have any after effects from it. Scott and Lisa came down about lunchtime. They were in town checking out more things for their bathroom redo. Also had a call from brother Tom this morning, and he is really having a bad day. Last evening he started feeling like he did the morning he had the stroke several years ago, and this morning woke up to the room whirling, and being unsteady on his feet. He said he did feel better today than he did last night, and after resting a bit, his blood pressure was down to normal. We talked for awhile of other things too, and I told him not to hesitate to call one of his kids if he needed help again. They are not on close terms, but when he had the stroke, I called them, and they rallied round him and got him to the hospital. He could call Rick, but he was going to be up here today at Steph's. Rick is not staying with him any longer, he has gone back to be with Carol, as she is undergoing chemo and radiation for her advanced lung cancer and not doing too well. This came about during the separation. I finally finished My World is an Island by Elisabeth Ogilvie, and really enjoyed it. Started on Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas, just a quickie time filler, and Listen to My Heart by Kathie Lee Gifford and Cody, one of the book sale finds. Letters to write, so will get to them.
